God is Real: A Plea for Truth
Yesterday, I read a post at Green|Words all about the ridiculousness of some of Christianity’s worst front runners. Maybe not so much out in front of you in your walk of life, but these people are getting some serious play and it’s sickening to say the least. I’m not sure what cauldron they pulled their “Christian” faith out of, but they need to put it back or call it something else.
For instance, the article quotes someone as they discussed “sympathetic magic.” Now, I’m a bit confused on how magic in any form really fits into Christianity, but whatever. Let’s ask this person, Where in scripture do you get your references?
“Everything can’t be put to Scripture. It’s got to be rhema, not logos. Napoleon sailed across the water, but you can’t find that in the Word.”
WHAT?
I realize that these people are on a power trip and not really into the actual idea of Christianity, but there are some of us who are in it for the real, true faith in the God who’s created us and called us to Him. I realize that may sound crazy to some people, but the idea is solid in scripture. I want my life to mean something, and I find that meaning in serving a God who I found a long time ago.
It’s frustrating to have people like Bill Maher (and plenty others) go around and find PLENTY of these charlatans shepherding people off the cliff into La la Land and diluting the name of Jesus Christ for the rest of us. Diluting the name of Jesus Christ for the world.
Thank God that He’s bigger than all of our stupid shenanigans, but I wish there was a way to get people to understand that not all Christians are prayer-cloth-selling, holler-louder-so-God-can-hear-your-prayers, get-anything-you-want-preaching idiots.
To anyone that’s not a Christian that stumbled onto my blog, or checks it regularly, please know that there is a God out there who is ALL-POWERFUL, OMNIPRESENT, and OMNISCIENT. He is real, His power is real, and His saving grace is real. Jesus Christ died for all of our sins, even the false prophets, and He waits for you.
Religion has ruined Christ’s witness in most peoples’ eyes. Fight back by living like you believe in a God who saves, but not a God who bows before you. A God who sends His son to die for me and you, and a God who created us in His image for His own purposes.
“Summon your power, O God; show us your strength, O God, as you have done before.” – Psalms 68:28
You GO brian!!!
Me likey. . . .
Speaking out against some of these “christian fads” is much easier said than done, even though we as true believers are called to proclaim the truth. This is truly evidence of God's grace in your life. Be encouraged and keep sharing! I enjoy reading.
Good stuff. I remember I was on a plane once talking to a guy about faith, and topic of Benny Hinn came up. I was tempted to say, “Well, not all Christians are like that. We're not perfect, you know.” Instead, I decided to take a different angle. “Benny Hinn doesn't represent us, because he's not a Christian,” I explained. “He is a religious charlatan who uses Christian terminology and symbolism, but ultimately, he's part of a cult that is about money and power and just uses religion as a tool to get that.” Maybe I went too far.
i dislike religions for the most part and that dislike is because of people that are in it only for the power and money. faith is fine and all, just not when the faith leader is telling you that you'll burn in hell if you don't put a dollar in the box so that he can build a bigger house.
I think you were right, and now, I think you may have explained it the best. I'm tired of saying, “We're not all like that.” I shouldn't even need to qualify myself against that. Seriously.
Religion is crazy stupid for the most part. I just hope more people (I pray, myself included) will be good examples of Christ in the midst of this, but it's like being a sailboat in the midst of converging hurricanes. Thanks for your input!
Thank you for the encouragement. It means a lot to know I'm not going crazy…
