NBA Finals Breakdown
This is the view of the NBA Finals from a, well, I’m not really a FAN of the Magic… but I live in Orlando and therefore felt a somewhat hive-minded fondness for the underdogs as they ran into the Finals. So, I don’t really want to hear your complaints about the fact that I’m biased. I haven’t watched basketball for 14 years. You know, since Michael Jordan basketball cards went out of style and Shaq played for the Magic and everyone here hated his guts.
So, with that fairly extreme caveat, I continue with my review of the Kobe Bryant Finals Review. Wait, I mean the NBA Finals Review… Whatever.
The Finals started off with the Orlando Magic as the underdogs, and LA Lakers as the Goliath of our times. How many Finals have they won in a row now? 15? Sheesh. Anyway, Orlando hasn’t had a Finals game in 14 years, and never one a single Finals game EVER.
Well, coming from a super-lull in sports-watching I became suddenly aware that the Magic were in the Playoffs. Who would’ve thought? Apparently, we had someone named Dwight Howard and a bunch of other people that were tearing it up, so, I did what any Orlandoan would do, I tuned in for just one.
But then something strange happened. It got sort of interesting. And suddenly, I didn’t want to NOT watch the game. We were playing against Lebron James. I’m not sure what team plays for him, but he did pretty good. The Magic wound up scrounging out a win and went on the the Finals.
Perfect. I had at least 4 more nights-worth of partying to go to.
So, the stage was set for there to be an awesome showdown between David and Goliath. But, something happened. Goliath seemed to scare David, and David didn’t pick up any stones on his way to the fight. By the 2nd quarter of the 5th game, it was apparent what was going to happen. Magic had been up, then they just started spiralling downward.
So, the Orlando Magic lost the Finals. But, here’s my biggest problem with the Finals coverage. BIASED ANNOUNCERS.
It’s annoying. I KNOW Kobe Bryant is a great basketball player. Maybe even amongst the greats. I don’t watch consistently, so I don’t know for sure. BUT, if you’re the announcer for a basketball Finals game that’s broadcasting on EVERYONE’S TV, then you need to pretend like you’re not 100% enamored with him. 90% of filler shots were of Kobe breathing or gritting his teeth or mouthing an f-bomb. The announcers would be talking about how terrific Kobe plays while ORLANDO HAS THE BALL.
Ugh.
To recap: I’m not saying that the Magic didn’t look like they gave up. I’m not sure what happened. I don’t watch basketball. We lost fair and square, but BIASED ANNOUNCERS ARE ANNOYING.
Like watching Fox News during the elections. (Or, like was replied to me conversely, “like watching any other news media source during the elections”.)
